Questions, answered
What's inside the study portal?
The full Fast Track Study System — every practice question, every flashcard deck, full-length mock exams, narrated audio, Miles the AI tutor, and the entire study guide, every chapter readable and highlightable. The cheat sheet — the highest-yield facts as a PDF — is in the study portal on every pass, with instant access to download it. Every pass opens all of it; Standard carries the Money-Back Guarantee and SurePass the SurePass Guarantee.
What score do I need to pass?
Your state decides, not ETS. ETS writes and scores 5038 on a 100-200 scale, and in its own words: "Passing scores vary by state or agency; they are not set by ETS." Read off ETS's own state-requirements pages in October 2026, most jurisdictions that list 5038 require 167, Arkansas requires 155 and American Samoa 152 — so look yours up before you book; ETS publishes it. What you do get is a verdict: your official score report shows your score beside the score your state requires and says whether you passed. The 80% our mocks are marked against is ours, not ETS's, and it is also the score that qualifies you for the guarantee.
How does the SurePass Guarantee work?
Standard and SurePass carry it. Score 80%+ on one full-length mock, sit the real exam, and if you don't pass we refund what you paid. On SurePass, clear two mocks with your readiness meter at "Getting close" or above and we also pay your full $130 retake fee. A refund also comes with free access to keep preparing — 90 more days on Standard, another year on SurePass. Starter carries no refund — don't pass, upload your score report, and we add 30 more days of access, free. Every free period is counted from the earliest date your exam allows a retake. You file the claim in your study portal with your official score report.
How many full-length mocks do I get?
Four scored full-length sittings, each a brand-new 130-question paper built to ETS's three content categories in the shares ETS prints — 38% Reading, 25% Language Use and Vocabulary, 37% Writing, Speaking, and Listening — and timed to the real 2 hours 30 minutes. Practice questions and timed practice are unlimited and never use one. Worth knowing what you are comparing that to. ETS sells three official 5038 practice forms at $24.95 each, and every registrant already gets Form 1 free; each is one fixed paper.
Is 5038 the test my state wants?
Check the code before you buy anything, from us or anyone. 5038 is English Language Arts: Content Knowledge — 130 selected-response questions in 2½ hours. 5039, English Language Arts: Content and Analysis, is a different test: three hours, two written responses, $156. Read in October 2026, Connecticut, Louisiana, Vermont and Wyoming list 5039 rather than 5038. And not every state uses Praxis at all — Texas, California, Georgia and Massachusetts run their own tests. ETS publishes each state's requirement; buy for the code yours names. Everything here is built for 5038.
Which pass should I buy?
SurePass, for almost everyone: today it costs the same as Standard, it runs a full year, and it is the only pass that pays your retake fee if you don't pass (and adds another year free). Standard is a month of access with the Money-Back Guarantee — a refund plus 90 more days if you don't pass. Starter is one week of access with no refund — don't pass and you get 30 more days free.
What does the test cost, and what does a retake cost?
ETS charges $130 to sit 5038, plus a 3% online service fee when you register online. There is no discounted resit — a second attempt is a fresh registration at the same price, at least 28 days after your previous test date, or ETS cancels the scores and keeps the fee. ETS's Free After 3 program makes further retakes free for five years once you have completed three attempts. Where the SurePass Guarantee comes in is the resit you do pay for: it pays your full $130 retake fee — nobody else on this test puts a dollar toward it.
Are the questions like the real test?
Close, and here is exactly how. Every scored item is a four-option selected-response question written to ETS's three content categories and weighted the way ETS weights them, with a reason given for every option — including why each wrong one is wrong. Reading items sit on full passages, as ETS's do. ETS's sample set also carries a "Select ALL that apply" format, and the bank has practice items in that shape; they are for practice and never appear in a scored mock. Our mocks run the real 2½-hour clock.
What about ETS's own practice materials?
Worth having, and worth knowing exactly what each is. The 5038 Study Companion is a free PDF with the full content outline and 32 sample questions. Registration includes one official practice form free, and ETS sells Forms 1-3 at $24.95 each, a 318-question QuizStack at $45 for six months and a Prep eBook at $45; it also resells a four-month Study.com course at $190. They come from the body that writes the test, which we cannot claim. What none of them does is refund you or pay toward the fee when you have to sit again. Prices move, so check them yourself before you buy.
What happens when my pass expires?
Your account stays and your work stays with it — notes, highlights and flashcard history are all there if you come back. The paid features stop. You can upgrade at any time and pick up exactly where you left off, and an upgrade always credits what you already paid.
My exam date moved. Does the plan adjust?
Yes. Change the date and the Game Plan rebuilds around the new one — it works backwards from your date, so a move forward compresses it and a move back spreads it out. Nothing is lost.
Can I use it on my phone, and does it work offline?
Yes to both. Add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app. Your due flashcards and a set of practice questions download automatically, and the whole study guide downloads too, narrated audio included — so a bus ride with no signal is still study time. Scored mocks and the tutor wait for a connection.
Do you offer refunds if I change my mind?
Yes, separately from the pass guarantee: 24 hours on Starter, 48 hours on Standard, or 72 hours on SurePass, measured from your purchase (or from your upgrade, if you upgraded) — no questions asked, as long as you haven't sat your exam yet. EEA and UK buyers also keep their 14-day statutory right. The SurePass Guarantee is the other promise — that one is about your exam result, not about changing your mind.
Why are SurePass guarantees limited?
Because we honor them. Every guarantee is a real financial commitment we may genuinely pay out, so a limited number opens for this exam each day. The allocation resets at midnight in your own time zone, and the counter shows how many of today's are still open.
